McAlpine built a 23-storey Hilton hotel in Surrey, which is part of the larger Victoria Square complex but is experiencing issues with its cladding panels.
The latest incident occurred in January after storms “Eowyn” and “Germania” struck within 48 hours of each other, causing the A320 road to remain closed ever since.
Woking Council leader Ann-Marie Barker had hoped the road would reopen last month, but on Friday she announced that the reopening would take place later that evening.
She added: “I want to sincerely apologise for all the inconvenience caused by this closure. I understand how incredibly frustrating this has been for residents, businesses, and everyone travelling through Woking. This is not a situation any of us wanted, and I am relieved that we can now expect the restoration of free movement along this key route.”
McAlpine, approached for comment, previously said: “We commissioned a specialist wind load modelling study for the entire building and its surroundings, exceeding standard requirements. This will enable us to better understand the area’s microclimate and conduct a final analysis of the loads the cladding was originally designed to withstand.”
